The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected former President Donald Trump's last-ditch plea to block the release of his tax records to House Democrats, paving the way for their possible disclosure to the lawmakers.

The decision by the court in a brief order noting no dissenting votes means the committee can try to access the documents before Republicans take over the House in January. The committee, however, has not said how quickly it expects to get the documents. Upon taking control, Republicans are expected to withdraw the request.

Although the Supreme Court has a 6-3 conservative majority, including three justices he appointed, Trump has not recently fared well in other such emergency applications, including his attempt to prevent White House documents from being handed over to the House Jan. 6 committee and his bid to avoid disclosing his financial records to prosecutors in New York. Most recently, the court last month rejected Trump's request that a special master be allowed to review classified papers seized from his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida.

Ruling ends a 3-year fight by Trump to block handover of 6 years of personal and business records. The court, without comment, rejected Trump's plea for an order that would have prevented the U.S. Treasury Department from giving six years of tax returns for Trump and some of his businesses to the Democratic-controlled House Ways and Means Committee. Trump had tried to run out the clock on the committee, with Republicans ready to take control of the House in January. Link

He stacked the court because he thought he'd have them in his back pocket, praising each and every one of his nominees. And now, we are going to have him and his supporters tearing down those same nominees they were saying would bring sanity back to the courts.

The Democrats better hurry because the Republicans take over the House in January.
In reality nothing will happen because the Democrats are lame ducks and they will be away for the holidays.

Having said that, I agree with the SCOTUS ruling and think his tax returns should be made public.
Are we having fun yet?

Do you want to know what's sad? These people were elected to get things done to help their constituents and to make their lives better. And what's their priority? Oh yeah, blocking the Democrats. Yeah, that's getting things done, that's passing bills to make things better.

Also, ALL CONSERVATIVE HOUSE MEMBERS DECRIED SPENDING MONEY ON THE INVESTIGATION INTO TRUMP, and yet they are all behind starting an investigation into SOMEONE WHO ISN'T EVEN IN THE GOVERNMENT. and doing what? Oh yeah, impeaching Biden, an action they spent YEARS saying shouldn't be something the house should be working on, instead it should be passing bills.

Again, hypocrites...

The reason the Republicans are going to investigate Hunter is to see if his father was involved in shady dealings with foreign agents which is against the law. Social media, the MSM and so-called experts censored the Hunter Biden laptop story or called it Russian disinformation in 2020.

The real hypocrites are the ones who dismissed the laptop two years ago but now are finally saying it's true.

You make valid points. There is very little time for the committee to do anything substantive.
Also, just because the Treasury Department has to give the tax returns to Congress, does not mean that the public gets to see them. Tax returns are still confidential.

The Democrats dropped the ball on making it a requirement for presidential candidates to make public their tax returns.

Shady deals with foreign agents is the province of the FBI, NOT Congress! Why are they spending money on it rather than just assigning it to the proper agency and return to their job of MAKING LAWS?

https://www.ncsl.org/research/about-state-legislatures/separation-of-powers-an-overview.aspx

The traditional characterizations of the powers of the branches of American government are:

The legislative branch is responsible for enacting the laws of the state and appropriating the money necessary to operate the government.

The executive branch is responsible for implementing and administering the public policy enacted and funded by the legislative branch.

The judicial branch is responsible for interpreting the constitution and laws and applying their interpretations to controversies brought before it.

The FBI is under the Executive branch, and Congress the Legislative. It's obvious that "...investigate Hunter is to see if his father was involved in shady dealings with foreign agents..." is an Executive matter, NOT Legislative.

There is a separation of powers for a reason, and they are encroaching on them for political reasons, not because it's part of their job.
