As for nobody wearing cloth masks anymore I see at least 50 people a day wearing cloth masks. They are worthless and the surgical masks are slightly better, the only masks the CDC says that work are the N95.

I don't get out that much but when I do I see most people wearing no masks and literally zero wearing cloth masks.

For me personally, the big practical lesson from the pandemic is that good masks can protect me not only from COVID, but also from the flu and whatever other respiratory viruses are out there. I haven't had so much as a cold in 3 years.

The linked article focuses on the correlation between comorbidities and serious illness. But the authors do acknowledge the effectiveness of vaccines:

I'm surprised at how many people I see wearing face masks.  I don't know why.  COVID cases and deaths are near an all time low (but still rather high) and there was no winter surge of COVID (and probably won't be).  It's not just old people.  Seems to be a wide variety.
