the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act

Why would one vote against requiring one to be a Citizen to vote in Federal elections?

Crazy to vote against in my opinion.

The bill passed the House 221 to 198 to require citizenship.
198 Demoncrats voted against the Bill.. Kind of shows a Agenda in my opinion with open Boarders.

Doubt the bill goes far anyways with Demoncrats having controls.

This is political grandstanding meant to rile up the MAGA crowd by intimating there is a problem with non-citizens voting.

(1) Only citizens should be able to vote. (2) All citizens should be able to vote. Both Democrats and Republicans believe in the first part, but Republicans thwarted the second part.  Voter suppression is a Republican thing.

The Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 explicitly prohibits noncitizens from voting in federal elections.

The SAVE Act adds more red tape to the states and is an unfunded mandate. No funding to states to assist with implementation costs. Republicans use to be the ones that were fiscally responsible and were against big government fucking over the states. .
Too much sex is still not enough.

It's part of the Republicans' ongoing effort to convince the uninformed that Biden's master plan is to get illegal immigrants to vote for him. Here's what Speaker Mike Johnson said about it this week:

"If just a small percentage, a fraction of a fraction of all those illegals that Joe Biden has brought in here to vote, if they do vote, it wouldn't just change one race," he said. "It might potentially change all of our races."

Although voting by non-citizens is just as much of a non-issue as voter fraud, and this bill would create unnecessary problems for local election officials, Trump and his allies will continue to stoke fear among their ignorant base so those folks will believe, in 2024, a reprised version of the Big Lie of 2020.

We also have a law(Patriot Act) that requires anyone entering the US to have a passport but we don't enforce it.
Are we having fun yet?

One rather obvious difference is that immigration control is a big problem, while non-citizen voting is barely any problem at all. Thus, even as a whataboutism this comment is painfully irrelevant.
