I grew up in LA, the Democrats have run LA since the early 70's. Things got worse since then and that's why I moved out of there. Arsonists lit the fires and the Santa Ana winds flamed them into an inferno.

Why the fuck was Mayor Karen Bass(D) in Ghana?
WTF does Ghana have to do with LA?

Oh I see, Old Joe sent her there for a meaningless ceremony.

Obviously they're still investigating the causes of the fires, but from what I've read, arson is unlikely. But since you grew up down there I'm sure you know better. lol

And the mayor should have stayed in town so she could have put the fires out herself. If I recall correctly, she campaigned on being a 70-year-old firefighting superhero.

The "truth" is not some ignorance-based vibe that you happen to feel.

It always amazes me the depths of hatred that spews from one party or the other, ascribing things which should be self-evident as being the fault of the other side.  It seems they don't get that it's so easy to check facts and make all the complaining about the other side just seem like mean-spirited whining.

By now, you have undoubtedly seen the devastation of the wildfires in California this week.  It's hard to imagine the situation that they are facing, but this may help put it in perspective.

The last estimate of the Palisades fire shows more than 31.2 square miles completely destroyed.   That's 2.40 times the size of the Town of Normal.  Here is the outline of the Palisades fire, scaled, and placed over the Town of Normal.

The systems needed to fight a fire on this scale do not exist.  No municipal water supply is designed to handle the kind of strain that the firefighting efforts in California are putting on it.   When a fire hydrant is opened, it takes a large volume of water out of the system rapidly, which affects the remaining supply and lowers the available pressure elsewhere. Eventually, the pumps that refill the tanks won't be able to keep up with the water that is being pumped out and pressure will drop.

This is an area larger than the corporate limits of the Town of Normal with thousands of structures burning simultaneously.  That's what they're fighting with out there... Not to mention the 80+MPH winds creating a firestorm through homes and dry vegetation.  Firefighting on the ground is virtually impossible in this scenario, and the aerial tankers (planes and helicopters that drop water and retardant) initially couldn't fly due to the high winds.

Remember, this is just one of several major fires burning, too.

There is a plenty of misinformation being spread, so we encourage you to get information from multiple sources and from experts.  In a 24-hour news cycle, there is a lot of time to fill, and sometimes there's a LOT of filler and opinions and not a lot of actual facts being shared.

This fire is eight times larger than the Great Chicago Fire.  It's a disaster on a scale that is just hard to comprehend.   We are thinking of all of the firefighters, and everyone trying to mitigate this disaster, and our sympathies go out to the lives lost, and those that have lost everything.

Fire chief of Altadena said he would of needed 20,000 fire engines to have a chance. That's how fast.

Yes it was Democrats failure.  Instead of making sure areas that fires could erupt in they spent billions on homeless and illegals. What happened in Paradise in 2016 should have been a warning.  The fuel load was known for years nothing was done about it.  High winds in the area are also known.  This could have been prevented had the fire department been given the equipment it needed.  Money was set aside years ago to build large tanks to hold water but never built.  Democrats gave the money to illegals.  So stop your ridiculous excuses for Democrats they own this one!

90 mph winds have never happened in Jan, with no rain at all. Fuel loads? it was houses. and the brush on those hills are like gasoline. the fire chief of LA that no amount of equipment would of stopped this.

The situation of having huge fuel load and high winds was a disaster in the making.  The fire started and under these conditions there was really no way to stop it.  The point is no prevention was carried out.  What you want to bet Calif will take action to prevent something like this from happening again?

Fires in Cali mountain forests have been going on for thousands of years.  Nothing is going to stop them.  Man just needs to learn to not build structures in these tinder areas or accept the risk.

Some (Trump) think you can just spend a million man hours picking up dead tinder that gets replaced each year as trees and vegatation dies.

Just to be clear. These fires are the direct result of Republican polices then, right?

you need to watch 60 minutes from last night. this was not like any fire ever. it came down hill driven by wind. the wind caused horizonal fire twisters that moved from house to house. embers flying 1 mile and still are.

Governor Newscum political career is over. Democrats are on the defense saying the fire could not have been prevented. Unless there had been prevention taken which there wasn't no one can know. Five years ago Trump pushed  congress to assist California with federal money to build reservois, Newscum rejected it. California Democrats have given billions of tax payer money to drug addicted homeless and illegals and did nothing to help protect property and lives.  So I don't want to hear the bullshit liberals have to say how this fire could not been prevented when no prevention was taken.

Quote from: Romanticlover on Jan 13, 2025, 04:17 PMFire chief complaned last month about the budget cuts:
https://san.com/cc/la-fire-chief-says-city-failed-department-during-ongoing-wildfires/
The chief was talking about being underfunded for ongoing operations. Even assuming that assessment is completely justified, it would be impossible to fund any municipal fire department to always be ready for the kind of catastrophic event we've seen in Los Angeles over the past week.

Additionally, you will rarely if ever hear the head of any government agency talk about having too much money to carry out their mission. I suppose it's shrewd of her to make noise about her budget now, when all eyes are on her jurisdiction, but it's also opportunistic.

The bottom line is that the alleged underfunding had little to do with either preventing or fighting these fires because there is nothing in the human toolbox that could have stopped them.
