Trump to sign Laken Riley Act

The Laken Riley Act requires the Department of Homeland Security to jail undocumented immigrants charged with crimes such as, burglary and theft, putting them on track for deportation. A Venezuelan illegal immigrant murdered nursing student Laken Riley. Had he been incarcerated for crimes he was accused of doing he would not have been free to commit the murder.

Immigrant advocacy groups, civil rights proponents, the ACLU were opposed to the act. However, there are hard working, law abiding people in the immigrant community that support laws like this.

48 Democrats joined 216 Republicans in the House voting yes. In the Senate the vote was 64-35, with 12 Democrats joining Republicans.

Some Democrats accuse the supporting Democrats of jumping on the "anti-immigrant bandwagon" after being shocked by the Trump election. These accusing Democrats are clinging to their ideology rather than listening to the mood of the general electorate.

IMO, immigration has been used as a political cudgel against the other party, by both Democrats and Republicans. Congress has failed miserably on passing meaningful legislation on immigration. Regardless of how flawed this act may be, perhaps this could be the beginning of working on the issue in a bipartisan way. So, Democrats need to jump on the "let's fixit bandwagon."

The lack of Biden and Democrats not doing anything about the mess at our border hurt Harris.  If the person entered the US illegally then commits crime the should be deported ASAP and the cost and damages be deducted from aid we give their country.

I got no problem deporting convicted criminal undocumented immigrants.  I am concerned for the hard working, taxpaying immigrants who also will face deportation.

Can you imagine the cost of food and products when farms, processing plants and small manufacturers all face labor shortages.

The US needs a huge increase in legal immigration of labor.  Trump says he wants to bring America back to it's heyday, that's is when we were flooding our country with new citizens. People doing the work that most won't do, paying into Social Security and paying taxes.

Biden through executive order enacted border bill that Trump had killed. But no body wants to talk about that. People can no long wait on our side the border for their hearing. Which before they could wait in our country for up to 10 yrs for a hearing. Now they get one in 30 days and wait outside border.

The border bill Dems came up with was a joke.  I would have voted against it.  So in 3 years Biden only tries once to to pretend he wants to protect our border. Democrats wrote the bill knowing it would not pass because they want a open border.

And these illegals disappeared into our country not showing up for their hearing.
