Tragic aviation accident over the Potomac. Probably no survivors. Any responsible president would refrain from editorializing. But we have Trump:

What we know Jan. 30, 2025, 12:22 AM PST
  • A regional jet collided midair with a helicopter near Reagan Washington National Airport.
  • The two aircraft crashed into the Potomac River, where a massive rescue operation is underway.
  • Some of the bodies have been recovered during search-and-rescue operations, NBC Washington reported, citing two sources close to the recovery efforts.
  • American Eagle Flight 5342, which was coming from Wichita, Kansas, was carrying 60 passengers and four crew members, American Airlines said in a statement.
  • Among the passengers were figure skating athletes, coaches and family members who had been at a development camp in Wichita, U.S. Figure Skating said.
  • The Army confirmed that the aircraft involved in the incident was a Black Hawk helicopter. Three people were on board, Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser said.
  • Officials did not release any information about casualties or survivors and extended their prayers to everyone affected.

I don't know if it's editorializing or just asking the same questions I would ask.  Don't you want to know why this happened?  Trump will get answers and perhaps this can be avoided in the future.  A military Black Hawk helicopter flying into a civilian aircraft killing everyone. Ultimately Trump is responsible for the accident being Commander and Chief of our military.

All HH-60Gs have an automatic flight control system, night vision goggles with lighting and forward looking infrared system that greatly enhances night low-level operations. Additionally, Pave Hawks have color weather radar and an engine/rotor blade anti-ice system that gives the HH-60G an adverse weather capability.

So with all this equipment and technology the helicopter flew into another aircraft that was decending to land.  This almost sounds as this was deliberate not an accident.

Very sad for the passengers, I watched the video and the helicopter was going in a straight path and altitude for over one mile while the passenger jet was descending on final approach.

Trump is asking the same questions as most of us...why was the helicopter in a controlled airspace?
Are we having fun yet?

The rest of us can ask questions all day long and nobody will know or care. Trump is the President of the United States, and his words can have impact around the world.

Find me an example of any other president who, within hours of an incident like this, started musing publicly about the cause of the accident. You won't find it because anyone in any position of authority (not just POTUS) knows to wait for confirmed information before commenting other than to offer condolences, etc.

EDIT:
Just saw part of his press conference from earlier. He says it's Biden's fault (and Obama's) for allowing DEI policies to be part of hiring at FAA.

Great leadership as always, Mr. President.

Of course we have questions about what happened. What we don't want is a president that guesses, speculates, and pulls theories out of his ass.  The President of the United States has access to information and can cause investigation beyond our capabilities. We need facts, not bullshit from a pompous asshole.

Trump is also pushing the narrative that DEI as a cause for the crash. When ask what evidence he had, he answers he has no facts, but he has common sense. What kind of hideous monster says this in the midst of grieving families without any factual information?

My condolences to the families that lost their love ones. And may they find comfort and strength to survive the onslaught of using their tragedy for political purposes.

He could be right.  Did not sound like Air Traffic Control handled the situation right.

Later in today's press conference, Trump clarified that the reason he knows DEI hiring had something to do with the crash is his common sense.

Then he signed an executive order further instructing the FAA about the evils of DEI and how this crash was Biden and Obama's fault and goddammit we're going to eradicate that shit because his common fucking sense tells him it causes mid-air collisions.

In a Jan 22, 2025 memo Trump fired the members of the Aviation Security Advisory Committee. The aviation security committee, which was mandated by Congress after the 1988 PanAm 103 bombing over Lockerbie, Scotland, will technically continue to exist but it won't have any members to carry out the work of examining safety issues at airlines and airports. Sounds like you are justifying Trump's political grandstanding by "he could be right." So, are you happy with the president making a lucky guess.

Jennifer Homendy,  Chair ofthe National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), said they will be looking at human factors, machine factors, environmental factors. An aviation accident analyst said typically there is not just one thing, the "smoking gun" as the sole cause.

Again, my heart goes out to the families grieving over the lost  of love ones while being subjected to unfounded conspiracy theories by a narcissistic President that has no empathy.

Sounds to me like you're not seeing that Trump is politicizing this tragedy for his own ends.

Unsurprisingly, right-wing media is going along with this crap, just as they did with his lies about the 2020 election. So, we can expect that the people in the right-wing echo chamber will come away from this believing what Trump said today.

Remember, Fox News had to pay out about $800 million dollars for their lies about the election, and the text messages that came out in that lawsuit showed that their on-air people knew they were lying.

It's going to be the same with this. They're lying about it on purpose.

Still, his supporters won't care.
