Quote from: Tuscano on Feb 19, 2025, 10:40 PMTHANK YOU! For calling this bizarre thread out! Russia! like China wishes to claim a historical "empire" that no longer exists! If it ever did.
Similar to Hitler's intention to claim lands previously a part of Germany that were broken off after WW1, starting with a part of Czechoslovakia.  In 1938 British Prime Minister, Neville Chamberlain, in acts of appeasement gave Hitler what he wanted. The Trump Putin appeasement is a familiar "movie."

The war is over.  Trump is not going to keep feeding Zelensky for a war Ukraine won't win. If the US wanted to protect Ukraine Biden should have act aggressive when Putin was placing troops and tanks along the border. The US has given billions of dollars and weapons to Ukraine...and for what?  This war has hurt our economy.  Zelensky will cave to Putin when Trump tells him its over the US isn't going to waste money to delay the inevitable! When US pulls out so will Europe.  The person Ukraine should be angry with is Biden.

You make it sound as if you think Trump is a pragmatist. He is not. Instead, he's a wannabe autocrat, and in this second term he's making great strides toward his autocratic goals.

He's abandoning Ukraine not because he thinks the war is already lost, but because he wants to please Putin. Most of us will be dead by the time his disastrous "policies" have fully played out, but whatever happens I have no doubt that history will judge him harshly.

Quote from: dogwalker on Feb 19, 2025, 10:17 AMWhy is Russia apparently so threatened by Ukraine joining NATO?  Has NATO ever attacked a country without provocation? Why wouldn't Russia let Ukraine join NATO then see what happens rather than having a pre-emptive invasion? The situation really seems more about Russia controlling former USSR countries.
Well said. Sort of like what's behind not wanting people to join the neighborhood watch program?

Aid to Ukraine

On the positive side, Biden took a leadership role in organizing Western alliances in support for Ukraine. Biden also showed personal support when he visited Kyiv, the first American president to visit a war zone not controlled by the U.S. military.

On the negative side, Biden failed to intervene more forcefully in the initial stages of the war. He declined to rally the NATO countries to control the skies over Ukraine. Biden's kept timidly yielding to Putin's threats that if the U.S. got more physically involved it would be seen as an act of war/escalation. So, he did not give Ukraine what they needed when they needed to win the war. Focusing on Russia being a nuclear power caused Biden to act with an excessive amount of caution.
