I know Musk wants to send a man to Mars, Why?  It will cost billions of dollars to send a person to Mars and hopefully return.  There is so much radiation in space makes the trip a lethal one.  Before sending a person to Mars we need to develope better space craft and fuel. Before sending anyone I think we need to build space craft that can travel way beyond Mars in a few days.  For right now I think we need to solve our problems here at home like hunger, disease, poverty etc, before we set off creating new ones on a alien planet.  So I vote no on sending a person to Mars.

When I was young I thought manned space exploration was needed but now I think it's too dangerous because we humans require too many resources and are too fragile(to the hazards of space). The race to the moon was brought on by JFK's challenge and the USSR, even back then there were detractors who said it was a waste of money. It takes six months to travel to Mars one-way, the amount of food and water needed for just one crew member would be enormous...not to mention the capsule would have to be lined with 1" of lead(or 12" of water) to shield the astronauts from radiation.

Unmanned space exploration = YES
Manned space exploration = NO

Missions to the moon helped us in so many ways. Advancement in technology that brought about micro chips!  I am all for going back to the moon but Mars is just too far away!

I agree 100% with the OP

A way for billionaires to make more money. Musk's Mars venture, is a significant financial undertaking with exact figures on costs/ profits not publicly available. SpaceX has received billions in government contracts over the years, including from NASA and the Department of Defense. Musk's space exploration will get billions more.

Government agencies like NASA and the NSA accomplished the moon landing expedition without direct reliance on private companies. The cost was available for public oversight and scrutiny.

NASA's Technology Transfer Program  was designed to Facilitate the transfer of NASA technologies to private industry, universities and startups who can utilize and expand upon the existing intellectual property, in order to maximize the benefit of NASA-developed technology to the nation and create economic development through entrepreneurship.

It can be interesting to explore the site for tech spin offs and opportunities.

while musk runs away to his planet mars, he could but won't save our planet from his destruction polluting the air and oceans with his rockets

musk was born in africa, right now africa is the most loaded up country for scam artists, where did musk learn how to conman?, I WONDER. (my inside source is from a huge company that must screen credit cards up to 7 days for good credit ratings) humans who fly to africa fill up suitcases ONLY with products to sell in africa. it's that bad for africa
