The Democrats in the Senate tried to ram through a draconian abortion bill yesterday that tramples on states rights....it failed.

They knew it wouldn't pass. That wasn't the point. The point was they now can go to women voters and say "Look, this person voted against your having a choice, do you really want to vote to put them back into power?"

In related news: Gov Newsom wants to spend $130 million to entice out of state businesses restricted by abortions.

It's not going to happen, businesses have been fleeing this state for red states.

You're correct, it was all about pandering to their imbecile base.

Who are these people that step in and do these things?

"Governor says he will call a special session to pass total abortion ban if Roe is overturned... "Including in the case of rape or incest?" Bash asked. To which the governor replied: "They're still babies, too. Yes."

Seems like this U.S. State Governor is like the Taliban in his feelings towards women...

So?  Governors don't write legislation or laws.  If the state of Nebraska decides to ban abortion that's their business if that is what the voters of Nebraska choose. This is a democracy. We are a republic government, the Supreme Court justices are not elected representatives, but they do vote. Not going to debate what is a state right or a federal right. .  Supreme court is ruling on if abortion is the business of the Supreme Court or the States.  Liberals want all the states to have the same laws. The only problem is there are people with other beliefs and customs in communities other than California liberals. Yes, religion does play a big part for anti-abortionists. For those that are nonchristian, they seem not to have any problem snuffing out life. No religion could be a religion in itself!

Yes freedom OF religion is also freedom FROM religion.

To say that non Christians have no problem "snuffing out life" is a rather narrow view that is inaccurate.

There are non Christians that are against abortion. SPL, Secular Pro-Life organization was founded by an atheist. There are a number of atheists that are pro-life activist.

For people that identify as Christians a good many, if not the majority, are OK with abortion under certain circumstances, i.e. rape, incest, health of the mother, baby will be born dead or with grotesque abnormalities that are threats to life.

I believe most people are not cavalier about getting an abortion, but rather struggle to come to their decision.
Too much sex is still not enough.

He didn't say he was going to put it up for the voters to decide. He said he was going to call for a special session of those who CAN make laws and have THEM pass it.

In the case of abortion, most "liberals" would simply prefer that the government keep its paws off of women's bodies. That's it. Just don't force a pregnant woman to carry that pregnancy to term.

Do you know what law that requires? NO law. Just stay out of it.

Then you should be supporting the Supreme Court majority as that is exactly what they are saying by sending the abortion issue back to the states where voters can decide. It won't be the government it will be the voices of the people heard.

So if I get what you are saying, if the lawmakers make a law/pass something, it's the will of the people that it's passed.

So it was every republican's will that California shut down and had a mask mandate right? Because that's what happened. Funny, when it happened to Republicans, the Democrats had no right to force them to stay inside/mask up. But other states can pass laws forcing 11 year old rape victims to carry a baby?

How does an ll-year-old pregnancy have to do with the issue of the US Supreme Court sending abortion back to the states?  Only the morons of the extreme right or left bring up this nonsense. Common sense will prevail.  What is the rape, incest abortion ruling in California? California does have time limits and when abortions can take place.
