But one side at least operates in the factual realm and is generally supportive of democratic principles. I'm with those guys.

Especially the media.  The media lost all credibility when Walter Cronkite died.

Speaking of corrupting influences and operating in the absence of facts, until tonight I missed what McCarthy said to reporters following his election:

"I do want to especially thank President Trump. I don't think anybody should doubt his influence. He was with me from the beginning.... He would call me and he would call others.... Thank you, President Trump."

Wow. McCarthy and the extremists are still willing to let Donald Trump lead them around by the nose. This is the guy who perpetrated the Big Lie and led a wide-ranging conspiracy in a failed effort to overturn the result of an election that didn't go his way, even going so far as to encourage (and perhaps even participate in organizing) deadly violence at the Capitol on January 6th.

Quote from: dogwalker on Jan 07, 2023, 10:56 PMYeh it's hilarious.  Most people have no ability to critically and honestly analyze anything and then make up their own mind independent of influence.  Instead they regurgitate what they WANT to believe or what they were exposed to (brainwashed by?) during their life.  That's the lame way to think but most people are too lazy, uneducated, stubborn, etc. to do anything else.
I would argue that the truly lazy way to think is to notice that neither side is perfect and then conclude that they are therefore exactly the same.

That makes perfect sense. What doesn't make sense is when someone who is willfully uninformed, as you seem to be, nevertheless sits in judgment of the opinions of those who do make the effort to become informed.

Hunter Biden is not part of the Executive Branch so congress has no business investigating... DOJ is already doing it...so why waste time and money on Hunter?

That's why the conservative dipshit James Comer, the new leader of one of the oversight committees, has been careful to say that they will be investigating not Hunter Biden, but rather Joe Biden. But we all know these jackals will find a way to stick their noses into the laptop fiasco because that's what their base has been salivating over ever since photos surfaced showing Hunter doing coke with hookers, or whatever it was that he was doing.

Quote from: Romanticlover on Jan 07, 2023, 11:26 AMWell a few American diplomats died in Libya because Hillary was asleep, I think it was a necessary investigation.
Two years, $7 million, 800 pages later, GOP Benghazi report found no evidence of wrongdoing by Hillary Clinton in the 2012 attacks in Libya,

Republican Representative Richard Hanna, said the House Select Committee on Benghazi is meant to go after former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
House Republican majority leader Kevin McCarthy admitted Benghazi panel was a partisan vehicle to drive down Hillary Clinton's poll numbers.Link

We have been through this before. The free the slaves Republican party is NOT the Republican party of today. The 1856 Democratic Party is the same party as today.

That I agree with, Democrats have always been obsessed with race instead of the content of their character.

Are we having fun yet?

If you want to talk about wasted Congressional hearings then look no further than the Democrats in the 1950's to the early 1970's, Sen. Carey Estes Kefauver(D) held hearings on organized crime from 1950 until his death in 1963. As I mentioned earlier, Sen. Bobby Kennedy(D) and other Democrats went on a witch hunt too.

How about we don't go back so far to look for Republican waste of tax dollars in a vendetta against a president:

The same thing happened with Obama. The Republican congress basically shut down helping America and their top priority was stopping Obama: https://www.tevitroy.org/8245/mcconnell-under-fire

""The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president," he said in the interview."

And look, almost EXACTLY the same words again with Biden: https://www.wsj.com/articles/mcconnell-says-100-of-his-focus-is-on-blocking-biden-agenda-11620257305

"One-hundred percent of our focus is on stopping this new administration," McConnell said, adding, "We're confronted with severe challenges from a new administration, and a narrow majority of Democrats in the House and a 50-50 Senate to turn America into a socialist country, and that's 100 percent of my focus."

Funny, I thought you were elected to pass laws to make the lives of the people you represent better, not pursue political agendas in retaliation for a big liar not being relected?
