Now that we have a Speaker of the House, let the investigation begin.
Too much sex is still not enough.

Uhm, you do remember that Republicans are the ones who like useless investigations right?

Because the Republicans started it with Bengazi, yet another fruitless money sink that, like their other money sink of Obama's birth certificate ended up doing nothing other than cost the tax payers money and waste time...

Well a few American diplomats died in Libya because Hillary was asleep, I think it was a necessary investigation.
How would you like to be in a foreign country and the US government says: "Sorry, you're on your own."
All parties have been going after each other for 200 years, nothing new here.

Yep, Sen Bobby Kennedy(D) had hearings in the late 50's on organized crime. He went after Jimmy Hoffa who was the head of the Teamsters and was a Republican, they finally put Hoffa in prison but Nixon pardoned him.

Here's what the incoming chair of the House Oversight Committee has in mind, as related by him during a speech designed, apparently, to remind the conference of the urgency of getting on with it for the sake of the American people:

[The people] deserve answers to what really happened in that lab in Wuhan, China. Those of us who have kids in the public school system can testify that our kids have lost a year of their education because of the forced virtual learning that so many of our schools put our children through during the Covid pandemic. Congress ran the debt up at least $3 trillion in the name of Covid-19. Yet as I mentioned earlier, there has not been a single hearing in the Oversight Committee to deal with potential waste, fraud, or abuse of the Covid funds. Not a single hearing. And we all know, despite what Dr. Fauci said, American tax dollars were sent through EcoHealth Alliance to the Wuhan lab in China for gain-of-function research, but yet Dr. Fauci hasn't come before Congress and the House of Representatives[...]Now let me say this loud and clear: The Republicans will also investigate a president for potential wrongdoing in Ukraine and Russia, as well as China. The American people have a lot of questions for Dr. Fauci, Christopher Wray, Merrick Garland, and Secretary Mayorkas. We can't have those questions, we can't ask those questions until we get organized and elect our speaker. The role of the Oversight Committee under Speaker Pelosi was a full-time committee to harass the previous president, a committee to advocate for woke social issues, which the Oversight Committee has absolutely no jurisdiction over.

So, pretty much what we expected. Investigate everything that the conspiracy theorists have been promoting, including the origins of COVID and whether Dr. Fauci had any role in funding "gain-of-function" research, a subject that is casually bandied about by these mooks as though they have even the slightest idea what it means.

Note, however, that he is careful not to refer to Hunter Biden's laptop, because that wouldn't be something the Oversight Committee has any business investigating. No, they're going to pretend to investigate the president himself, because as we know a lot of their constituents believe that "China Biden" has been involved in all kinds of shady deals with China and Ukraine.

It's going to be just as stupid as it promises to be, but with so many concessions to the extremists it could also be catastrophic if, for example, they use the debt ceiling as a weapon.

These next two years are going to be even more dysfunctional than usual in Congress, and it will be the fault of the Republicans alone.

You say that like it was the first, or last time that happened: https://www.americanprogress.org/article/attacks-against-american-diplomats/

You're the one who mentioned Benghazi, not me.

As for Beirut in 1983, I remember when Reagan sent the Marines there and I thought it was a terrible idea. It was horrible what happened to them and Congress investigated the incident.

See, I can be critical of Republicans when they make a mistake.

Both sides are subject to corrupting influences. Both sides are deeply flawed.

But one side at least operates in the factual realm and is generally supportive of democratic principles. I'm with those guys.
