Quote from: bats on Nov 21, 2024, 02:28 PMThis settles it. Trump is a man of honesty and integrity.

I was asked a reasonable question so I took the time to answer it.

Let's constantly move the target shall we?

So are you saying that at the time he said it, it was a lie? I read your link.  What's your analysis with regards to the statement's veracity

Trump is correct in stating that under his presidency, the U.S. unemployment rate reached its lowest point in 50 years, hitting 3.5% in September 2019 and February 2020.- Source: This information is corroborated by data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, which has tracked unemployment rates since 1948. The last time the unemployment rate was at 3.5% before Trump's term was in December 1969. This statement holds true for that specific period before the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic

You make it sound as if you responded to a legitimate challenge. LOL

Look, I don't think Danno intended it to be such a gimme question, but if the bar for proving Trump isn't a liar is so low that it can be cleared by identifying THREE truthful claims over the past decade, then you'd have to admit it wasn't much of a test even for a colossal liar like Trump.

A lot of jobs Biden takes credit for were rehires not new jobs.  Back before the pandemic the economy was doing good, inflation was at a all time low along with low unemployment. Democrats did a good job getting the economy back on its feet in just 3 years.  Many countries still haven't recovered. Trump will inherite a much better economy than what he left for Biden to deal with. I hope Trump can end the wars and take control over the southern border.

The only purpose of my link was to show Biden made the statement word of word.

There is context with all statistics. And in the past, we have noted that Trump inherited an unemployment rate of 4.7%, which was below the median jobless rate of 5.6% (going back to 1948), and the unemployment rate had been steadily declining for seven years under President Barack Obama. That downward trend continued for three years under Trump — reaching 3.5% in January and February 2020 — until the pandemic struck, and the rate soared to a peak of 14.7% in April 2020.

Biden inherited an unemployment rate of 6.7% — higher than the historical average — but the rate had been declining for months as the worst effects of the pandemic ebbed. As it did during Trump's initial years in office, the unemployment rate continued to decline under Biden, reaching a 50-year low of 3.4% in January and again in April — a tick lower than the 3.5% it was under Trump in February 2020, a month before the World Health Organization officially declared COVID-19 a pandemic. The pandemic struck, and the rate soared to a peak of 14.7% in April 2020. That's a historical fact, however, no presidential bragging or blaming rights IMO.

Trump's incoming press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, did her best Sean Spicer impression this morning when she complained about accurate reports that Trump's "landslide" victory wasn't quite a landslide. This morning, she posted this on Twitter:

  • The fake news is trying to minimize President Trump's massive and historic victory to try to delegitimize his mandate before he even takes the Oath of Office again

On Fox News the other night, she made these comments with a straight face:

  • There is no greater advocate for a free and fair press than Donald Trump.
  • During his first term as president he was the most transparent president in American history.

As always, Trump is surrounding himself with the best people.

Trump needs stop the talk and do the walk. Don't TELL us how great you are, just do the work and let the work speak for its self. Trump will have the House and the Senate, so get it done.

The problem is that they might get some things done, but those things won't be in the country's best interests. If they're able to enact tax cuts for the wealthy, conduct mass deportations, and push through massive cuts to programs needed by the least fortunate among us, then the voters will turn on them.
