"There's an adage, a historian once called a Law of History. True of every society across the ages. The adage is only when it is dark enough can you see the stars. I know many people feel like we are entering a dark time. But for the benefit of us all, I hope that is not the case. But here's the thing, America. If it is, let us fill the sky with the light of a brilliant billion stars, the light of optimism, of faith, of truth and service, and may that work guide us even in the face of setbacks toward the extraordinary promise of the United States of America."
Too much sex is still not enough.

The funny thing is that's what the Republicans were crowing about 4 years ago and the democrats 4 years prior to that. We've become a society who only wants to cry about everything now and trying to make it seem all melodramatic.

It's a hopeful sentiment (the part you bolded). And it was appropriate for the occasion. What else was she going to say in defeat?

It wouldn't have been helpful for her to talk at length about the disaster that awaits this country. But she needed to acknowledge what her supporters believe. I believe it, too. We are headed for a dark time. We're going to live through it, but the damage to our democratic institutions is likely to be massive unless Trump somehow finds within himself an ounce of decency. Ha! Just joking.

In a way...this speech signals an end to her political career.

Yes, it's difficult to see where she would go from here as an elected official. But I can't think of any recent former VPs who have run for any office other than president. And there's no way she'll ever again be the Democratic nominee for president.

Yeah her political career is over, she will probably get a job as a consultant at a law firm and give paid speeches.
