Meanwhile, it's awesome to have a few of you who believe they're the fucking sage of truth, doling out their divine insights like we're all here for the sermon. Thanks for the lesson, but maybe dial back the arrogance a notch.

Or, that's a stretch. It'd be like yelling at a dog, for being a dog. Please continue your barking.
It's good that you're here to criticize others' arrogance with such sarcasm, as if there were a difference.

The news media doesnt report news anymore, they report their opinion.  What should happen is when news media is giving misinformation they should be held accountable and pay huge fines.

Fines for misinformation are interesting as an idea to me but who would determine what is misinformation and what the fines are?  Yet another biased court or committee?  A biased social media company or their workers? That process itself could also be politically motivated or biased.

A friend and I recently agreed everyone is biased to varying degrees about many topics so we believe finding a truly neutral party these days may be very difficult.  Who does not have opinions and then use that to guide their actions and lives? That is bias, maybe somewhat unintentional in some cases but it happens anyway.

There's been a few (and only a few) successful lawsuits against misinformation.  Against Fox News for lying about voting machines.  Against Infowars for claiming the Sandy Hook massacre was a hoax (although in that case the defendant had not paid a penny something like 2 years after the judgement).

We've previously discussed the perverse financial incentives for news reporting in the United States. Naturally, Republicans wish to abolish the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which is mostly insulated from such incentives.

We have laws that deter defamation, but as dogwalker has suggested, successful suits are uncommon. The laws, which must be enforced in accordance with the First Amendment, are heavily slanted in favor of free speech.

The news media died when Walter Cronkite died.
