Two ballets for Speaker of the House, McCarthy still fails. Interestingly Democrat Jeffries keeps getting more votes than McCarthy. Neither got the 218 votes required. Third vote getting underway.
The last time a speaker vote went to multiple ballots was in 1923. Republicans held the majority.
The House Republicans can't get their shit together, I wish Darryl Issa was speaker but that's not going to happen.
House stands adjourn until tomorrow.
No Speaker today.
Grab your popcorn, see what happens tomorrow.

I think it's hilarious when arrogant pricks get taken down a notch. Now McCarthy is going to have to kiss ass to become Speaker instead of thinking he automatically deserves it.

Yes agree with you. The arrogant prick moved his stuff into the Speakers office yesterday.
Problem is McCarthy has been "kissing ass" all along.
Gaetz, in nominating Jordan before the second round of voting, stood right in front of McCarthy and accused him of having
"sold shares of himself for more than a decade to get it." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bc6PvolmoC0
Well now the Republicans get a taste of what it was like when 1 or 2 Democrats held the Senate hostage in recent years. The Republicans got all excited when they won the House......but apparently they didn't (if they do not have enough votes to pass their legislation). Talk about gridlock.....even within the Republican's own party!
Added note...yeh McCarthy was even signing some recent letters with something like "Speaker Designate." Hilarious. Don't count them chickens before they hatch.
I watched some C-SPAN tonight. The Democrats nominated Hakeem Jeffries, their minority leader, for House Speaker. Was that just procedural or is it actually possible that a Democrat could be House Speaker even if by numbers Republicans are in the majority (although only by 9 of 435 seats).
They could change the House rules to a plurality of the vote would be Speaker. Hakeem Jeffries got the most votes and would be elected Speaker. However, it will take 218 votes to change the rule. So, no Jeffries will not be elected Speaker.

The Democrats are presenting a united front so as to be in complete and total contrast to the Republicans, who, though they have the majority, are nevertheless too dysfunctional to govern, even to the point of being unable to elect a leader.
Both parties are reflective of their constituents. The Democrats want to govern, while the Republicans just want power so they can continue to destroy our democratic institutions. It's the Trump Effect, which is a reflection of their dipshit voters.
Just another opportunistic slam on the Republicans instead of answering my question but I often go off topic too.

Quote from: dogwalker on Jan 04, 2023, 08:19 AMI did some research. Yes Jeffries could be elected Speaker of the House in theory. Just needs the 218 votes from other members. Possible in theory. Near zero chance in practice since probably not even one Republican would vote for him. In fact one does not even need to be a member of Congress to be Speaker! I could be Speaker IF I got 218 votes from current House members....lol. Trump could become Speaker.

With respect to working with the 20 Republican hold outs, A Fox News commentator said this like trying to do hostage negotiation when the main demand is kill the hostage.
They do not trust McCarthy. They saw his sleaziness for 14 years. Before the midterm elections McCarthy was expected the big red wave, so he ignored working with them as he felt he didn't need them. Well McCarty guessed wrong big time.
Gridlock within gridlock. Over promise and under deliver is never a good strategy. The Republicans look like fools.
The way they talked last week, Biden would be impeached and gone by tomorrow.
LMAO.....yeh the Republicans plans and agenda are a bit on hold for now.
Impeach Biden might he the Republican's #2 goal now though (?).
Sounds like they are hell bent on not hiring more IRS agents.....bizarre.
As long as whatever that cost brought in enough revenue to pay for it, I'd be ok with that.
(even though I am not a big fan of taxes or the IRS)

Thus disproving your repeated claim that you don't care about any of this stuff! lol

As usual this forum devolves into direct or sometimes "cutely disguised" but veiled attacks on others instead of staying on topic and having a discussion about the topic at hand.
For example.....the topic of this thread is "Vote Speaker of the House" NOT whether dogwalker said he was going to post here or not or whether he cared about anything here or not..
dog, if I wanted to attack you it wouldn't be disguised, cutely or otherwise. I know you've got a sense of humor, so maybe laugh along with me at the silliness of it all. Or don't. Whatever.
The Republicans don't need SNL to parody their incompetence they're doing a good job of that themselves!
MTG "I'm the only Republican that has zero committees," Greene told C-SPAN after a conference meeting. ROTFLMAO

She's embarrassing and catty, it's like watching "The Real Wives of DC"
I'd still do her though. lol
These few Republicans are doing this to get on TV. It makes them money.
Kevin McCarthy elected Speaker of the House on the 15th ballot with 216 votes. Jeffries received 212 Votes.

Apparently, the extremists extracted enough of what they wanted from him. Should be great for the country. /sprofile in cowardice.jpeg
Great.....time for another topic.....

Instead of throwing rocks at each other and endless investigations why don't they investigate and make known what is happening at our border and what it will cost us down the road if it is not controlled...
