In the year and a half following the Supreme Court Dobbs decision that revoked the federal right to an abortion, hundreds more infants died than expected in the United States, new research shows. The vast majority of those infants had congenital anomalies, or birth defects.

They found that infant mortality was higher than usual in the US in several months after the Dobbs decision and never dropped to rates that were lower than expected.

In the months that infant mortality was higher than expected – October 2022, March 2023 and April 2023 – rates were about 7% higher than typical, leading to an average of 247 more infant deaths in each of those months.

About 80% of those additional infant deaths could be attributed to congenital anomalies, which were higher than expected in six of the 18 months following the Dobbs decision, according to the new research. Congenital anomalies can range from mild to severe cases, and some of the most common types can affect an infant's heart or spine. In some cases, babies with a birth defect may only survive a few months.

Children being murdered by an abortion or dying after being born of natural causes, why do Democrats care?

That's true but strictly speaking it's a correlation which in turn means the ban may or may not have been the direct cause.  I know some will ASSUME one thing or the other based on their beliefs and AGNEDA but getting solid PROOF is not so easy.  Also there are often fluctuations in trends.  Follow the data for another "10 years" (some longer time period) and then the argument becomes stronger.  I don't like terms like "than expected" because that presumes one can predict the future highly accurately when no one can.  What is the error in their data? Reminds me of crime statistics.  Those also go up and down and up.  The reasons for crime rates are complicated IMO but various groups try to place blame on one thing or the other or something else to attempt to use such numbers for their AGENDA.

Probably true. Fetuses suffering from birth defects during pregnancy which can be detected by imaging and other test that would have resulted in an abortion die within days or weeks after birth.

Another source:
JAMA Pediatrics, Published online October 21, 2024.4 - National Trends in Infant Mortality in the US After Dobbs. increased infant mortality in Texas following passage of Senate Bill 8, banning abortion in early pregnancy. The increase appeared pronounced among infants with congenital anomalies, potentially owing to frail fetuses more often being carried to term following the implementation of abortion restrictions. We examined whether national monthly trends in infant mortality exhibit similar patterns following the US Supreme Court decision Dobbs v Jackson Women's Health Organization, which overturned the constitutional right to abortion.Link
I didn't read the full article as I chose not to do a subscribe.

I also didn't read the study but I doubt it took into account the mothers drinking and/or doing drugs during pregnancy or refusing to get regular medical exams, taking neonatal supplements(Vitamin D, Folate, etc).

Blaming conservatives for the mothers poor life choices is ridiculous.

Didn't take in account for rape victims, oh that's right they are suppose to lay back and enjoy it according to many Republicans. Having to give birth to your rapist kid must be the worst thing ever.

It comes down to do we want government taking away our freedom over our own body.  Abortion is one of many side effects of being free to chose.  Take the second amendment there are people who want to ban our freedom to privately own guns because of the gun violence.  Gun violence comes along with the freedom to own guns.  People will argue to defend the unborn but that's just it they have not been born and have not become a person. Sure if the pregnancy is  not interfered with the fetus will continue to grow and become a person.  But at the time of the Abortion the fetus is incapable of thought.  No I will never vote or support freedom from being taken away.
