We keep being told that arming teachers will make kids safer. That a well-trained good guy with a gun can take care of bad guys with guns.

"The new law dramatically reduces the amount of training a teacher must undergo before they can carry a gun in a school safety zone. Instead of more than 700 hours of training that's currently required, school staff who want to be armed would get training that "shall not exceed" 24 hours, House Bill 99 states.

The FOP's Mike Weinman testified relaxing Ohio's regulations would create a jumble of school district requirements and result in inadequately trained teachers who will then confront a confusion of roles.

When armed, a teacher's first responsibility is to act as a first responder, Weinman said: "She will be required to abandon her students and respond to whatever threat may be in the building at a moment's notice."

Uhm, what happened to the well-trained part? Do you all really trust that someone with NO MORE THAN 24 hours of training is gun safe around children????

good for them I guess?  I do not live in Ohio and [I promise] I'm not in grade school or a teacher, etc.....so....I do not care.....
These days I only care about roughly 4 things.  The rest is irrelevant (to me).  I can't fight everyone else's battles.

I'm all for it since it's the schools responsibility for students safety.
It's either this or every school should have armed campus police.

then pay them what a cop makes which is probably double what they make now.

24 hours is plenty...700 hours is ridiculous.  Don't have to train them to be police officers.  All they need is gun safety, and target practice.  Their job is to protect our kids and need the necessary tools to do the job. Be more effective in arming teachers than all the money spent on security systems that can be breached simply by human error or mistake.

It's an experiment.  Therefore probably should not prejudge it beforehand, as if the future can be predicted.
If it works, great.  If not, then can it and try something else.

Another benefit would be students would be less likely to cause trouble in class if they knew the teacher was packing.

This is the answer so long as it's all paid for out of tax increases on firearms.

teachers will be shot first, they won't see it coming
these shooters show up with body armor and slaughter guns.
teachers are quitting in droves over this and low pay. don't blame them.
