he should start with Trumps golf. Cost us $10 million for 3 days of golf last weekend. His 1st term it cost us $141 million

"You could not pay me to marry outside of my ethnicity," @nullllptr tweeted on X in September, the Journal reported.

"Normalize Indian hate," the account wrote the same month, in reference to a post noting the prevalence of people from India in Silicon Valley," according to the Journal.

"Just for the record, I was racist before it was cool," the account posted in July, according to the newspaper.

In June, the account tweeted, "I would not mind at all if Gaza and Israel were both wiped off the face of the Earth."

Quote from: bats on Feb 06, 2025, 09:35 AMYou make it sound as if you've done your own deep dive on USAID's mission and programs, and so you support Musk's illegal actions to gut those programs.

Even if you had become well-informed about USAID, why would you, a patriotic American, support Musk's and Trump's blatant illegality?

Oh, come on!  I don't agree with shutting it all down, but have you heard some of the money that was being spent on BS programs in other countries. What the hell is that about! And doesn't that make you happy as well that your money is not going to get wasted.

Obviously, nobody wants to waste money. That's not a new concept.

But under our Constitution, the congress has the power of the purse. Not the president. So, if Congress enacts a law creating a program and authorizing spending, the job of the executive branch is to "execute" that law and spend the money as Congress has directed.

If the law gives the president discretion, then he has discretion. If not, then not.

I am not happy that Trump is acting as a dictator. It's illegal, it's anti-American, and it's disgusting.

lets start with taking away the millions spent on golf, enriching himself charging the government for everything, including porta potties for the secret service

Eliminating government waste, one of the favorite political talking points from all administrations. Yet, a difficult task in reality. The Musk approach is to not find waste and get rid of it, just get rid of the whole program. Everything will be gone, so no more waste.

2024, USAID accounted for approximately 0.3% of the total federal budget.  0.3%

BTW, Musk is not shining a light on the program. He turned out all the lights without worrying about the negative consequences on US national security of putting us in the dark.

USAID's mission has evolved over time. However it continued as a part of U.S. foreign policy to promoting peace and stability throughout the world which is critical to U.S. interests. It's roots are founded in previous aid missions.

The Point Four Program - Program aimed at reducing poverty and increasing production in developing countries. President Truman, President Eisenhower, President Kennedy provided aid to other countries in accordance with this concept.Link

The Truman Doctrine - President Harry Truman's foreign policy, also known as the policy of containment, provided aid to democratic countries threatened by communism

The Marshall Plan - The Marshall Plan was a massive program that helped rebuild Europe after World War II. The US used the plan to economically divide Germany, supporting Western Germany while denying aid to Eastern Germany.

The problem with "hearing" things about a government program, especially one that has been targeted by the Trump administration, is that what you're hearing is undoubtedly bullshit.

I watched a brief clip of Joe Rogan talking about some of the things he has "heard" about USAID programs, and while the things he named did sound ridiculous, why would anyone accept what Joe Rogan says as fact? That would be stupid.

Yet people do accept it, because they don't care to look into it themselves.

You can't bend even a little?  I get your perspective even though I don't agree with it.  You know that there is government waste.  What about the Chelsey Clinton wedding that was partially paid for from USAID?  Don't believe any of it?  Come on man!

It's not about "bending." It's about questioning things you hear or read.

The Chelsea Clinton wedding thing is a good example. Right-wingers have apparently been spreading this claim for years, but there's never been any evidence.

If it sounds ridiculous, why wouldn't you question it? Fact-checkers have done the work for you, yet you can't be bothered. I'd guess it's because these are things you'd like to believe because they demonize people you already dislike.

The waste spending report will be out then you will see where your tax money is going.  I saw lots of tax payer money wasted on inmates and that was only California one department.  Just imagine at the federal level.

Just to follow up using your observance of waste in CDCR. One example is special meal costs ($millions) to meet inmate dietary needs based on their religious restrictions. So, if pork is on the menu for a meal, the department's food service must provide and alternative non pork meat. How about if you can't eat pork, then don't eat it at that meal. Eat the other foods on the menu.

You get rid of this waste through a change in policies. NOT cancel all the meals.
Musk is too lazy or too incompetent to uncover waste without destroying the whole thing.
